When you have changed your food choices and are not getting the results you desire there might be a Candida issue going on. It can affect many areas of your body as seen in the symptoms list included in this book. If you want to find out if you might be dealing with this condition, do the “SPIT TEST” and evaluate the results with the information given. For a more thorough evaluation fill out the “Candida Answer Questionnaire” reprinted with permission from Dr William Crook who wrote the “Yeast Connection” and “Yeast Connection Cookbook”. He really brought awareness to this condition and now there are many other resources available.
Candida, Candida Albicans or “Candidacies” are the terms often used to describe a yeast overgrowth that is usually found in the intestinal area and other tissues of the body. It is not a new medical problem but is finally being recognized by some doctors more and more as a contributor to many of the health issues. Often it is referred to as the “missing diagnosis”. There is a struggle between the various microorganisms inhabiting the human body, especially between yeast and the beneficial bacteria which upsets the delicate balance of the body resulting in poor health.
Candida begins in the digestive system and can slowly spread to other areas of the body. This is often referred to as the “leaky gut syndrome”. It is a strong, invasive parasite that attaches itself to the intestinal wall and becomes a permanent resident of your internal organs. Yeast is an integral part of life. It is present in food, and is found on many surfaces including the air we breathe and exposure can’t be avoided.
It multiplies rapidly, can go dormant and then when it comes “alive” it is cannibalistic. Areas that it can express itself in are mouth, gastrointestinal tracts, vaginal area, urinary tract, prostate gland, skin, fingernails and toenails.
The yeast toxins can damage or cripple the immune system. Not only is the body dealing with the yeast it also has to manage the secondary bacterial and viral invasions as well. The toxins weaken the body’s ability to respond to all invading antigens. An antigen is anything that is foreign, toxic or unnecessary to the health of the body’s cells. This is another reason why it is so important to eat for your blood type. Undigested foods (avoids) for your blood type can set you up with a very reactive response to the toxins.
If your immune system is strong it can remove these antigens but over time it gets weak and then the body has an allergic response to varying degrees. You may react to foods, pollens, odors, chemicals, and health care products etc. Often people will comment, “I have never had issues with these things before until now”. Or they say, “This issue just appeared”. Actually it has been accruing over time as the immune system gets weaker and weaker from all the hits it finally breaks down and the symptoms express themselves.
When yeast gives off waste it is acetaldehyde. Over the years this buildups in the body and overwhelms the tissues. This poison is transformed into ethanol and converted by the liver to alcohol. This process depletes the body of magnesium and potassium and the cells lose their energy. These minerals are necessary for the tissues to have strength and integrity.
When there is less oxygen in the body then more alcohol is produced, which is why sometimes you literally have a sip of wine, or beer and feel drunk, dizzy or confused. The over abundance of acetaldehyde can show up as excessive fatigue, a loss of strength, stamina, reduction in the clarity of thought and difficulty staying motivated to do things.
Once the gut starts to “leak” bacteria/toxins they invade the tissues and can cause joint pain, chest pain, sinus and respiratory inflammation, glandular stress, menstrual problems and any of the other things listed on the Candida Yeast Answer sheet in this section. Many of the medical conditions people seek a doctor’s help for are linked to this condition and go unrecognized and untreated.
Sometimes there can be a multitude of symptoms that are all linked but the connection is not made properly that they are connected. Left untreated Candidacies can damage the body in many ways leading to serious organ dysfunctions.
If you find that you have high totals on the questionnaire or lots of stringy legs in the “Spit Test” it would be a good idea to start working with the Do’s and Don’ts food choices. These are generic guidelines so you might want to add your blood type choices onto these sheets. It is going to be restrictive and the amount of time you need to eat this way will vary. For some a month others it might be a longer period of time. Definitely be sure to blend your protein, carbohydrates and fats when you eat whether it is a snack or a meal. Most of your carbohydrates are going to come from vegetables and greens so be sure you are getting enough volume using the portion guidelines so you have enough energy and do not drop muscle weight.
If you find that you are not getting on top of the symptoms with the changes in your nutrition it would be advisable to seek out a professional that deals with this condition. I help clients through changes in their food choices and know that the “Yeast Connection Diet” is very restrictive but it is a medicinal way of eating specific for a “medical” condition. If that does not get the body back on track enough then doing the Body Scan to set up an appropriate supplement and homeopathic program is recommend.
There are times when it takes some medications along with supplements to kill the organisms and allow the body to rebuild. The doctor has to write the prescription for the anti-fungal. I do suggest testing it with the other support when possible. It is important to make sure they all work together.
This is just a tip of the iceberg introduction so that you are aware there might be another reason why you are not getting the results you desire with the food plan guidance of this book. Do research and seek answers. Don’t give up you are not going crazy as the Western world of medicine often alludes to.
